"The archetype of the modern watch" sums it up nicely...
Think about it: It was the world's first fully waterproof wrist chronometer with date feature... characteristics that can be found in 99%* of the watches made today, brought to you by Rolex in 1945. This is a watch that changed the watch world.
Well, well, well, now that Baselword 2015 is over and all the smoke has cleared, some of the rumors from one of our favorite brands have been confirmed... Rolex has introduced new models, colors, a new caliber and... heresy! a "rubber" bracelet!

ROLEX UNVEILS NEW-GENERATION MODELS AND A NEW-GENERATION MOVEMENT THAT SETS A NEW STANDARD OF CHRONOMETRIC PERFORMANCE.
DAY-DATE 40 AND NEW 3255 MOVEMENT Rolex is introducing the new generation of its most prestigious model, the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date, known as the “presidents’ watch” thanks to the well-known and eminent figures who have adopted it. It features a modernized design with a 40 mm case and a new mechanical movement, calibre 3255, which sets a new standard for chronometric performance. The new Day-Date redefines the status of Superlative Chronometer, established by Rolex in the late 1950s, a particularly emblematic attribute for a watch that is a symbol of excellence and prestige. Calibre 3255 is a compelling example of avant-garde watchmaking technology, backed by 14 patents. This innovative movement offers fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetism, ease of use and reliability. It incorporates the new Chronergy escapement patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. The new Day-Date is available exclusively in 950 platinum or in 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold, with a variety of elaborate new dials, veritable signatures of its renewal.
LADY-DATEJUST 28 WITH SYLOXI HAIRSPRING Rolex is presenting the new generation of the Oyster Perpetual Lady-Datejust, featuring a redesigned case enlarged to 28 mm and calibre 2236, a mechanical movement fitted with a Rolex-patented Syloxihairspring in silicon for superlative chronometric performance. A perfect complement to the new Day-Date, this Lady-Datejust is offered in 950 platinum and in 18 ct yellow or Everose gold, with new, specially designed dials.
NEW STANDARD OF PRECISION The new-generation Day-Date and Lady-Datejust constitute a presidential couple at the cutting edge of Rolex’s technological innovation in terms of their chronometric performance. Equipped with the latest movements developed by Rolex – calibres 3255 and 2236 respectively – these models establish a new standard for superlative precision with criteria for precision on the wrist that are twice as exacting as those for a chronometer officially certified by COSC. Rolex has developed new high-technology methodology and equipment to test the precision of its Superlative Chronometers according to the new tolerances, and under conditions that are more representative of those in which the watch is actually worn, simulating the wearer’s everyday experience. These exclusive chronometric tests complement the official COSC certification – to which all Rolex movements continue to be submitted systematically – and are carried out not on the movements alone, but on the assembled watches after the movements have been cased. As a result, the Rolex chronometers equipped with movements tested according to this new methodology demonstrate superlative precision on the wrist.
YACHT-MASTER WITH OYSTERFLEX BRACELET Rolex is launching a new black and 18 ct Everose gold version of its nautical Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master, fitted exclusively with the innovative Oysterflex bracelet developed and patented by Rolex. This technical bracelet combines in a singular way the robustness and reliability of a metal bracelet with the flexibility, comfort and aesthetics of an elastomer strap. At its core lies a superelastic metal blade overmoulded with high-performance black elastomer. This new Yacht-Master is offered in two sizes: 40 mm and a new 37 mm diameter. Its Oyster case in 18 ct Everose gold includes a rotatable bezel fitted with a new Cerachrom insert in black ceramic with polished raised numerals on a matt background.
REJUVENATING THE OYSTER PERPETUAL Rolex is introducing new versions of its quintessential Oyster Perpetual model featuring exclusive new dials in the 26, 31 and 34 mm sizes, as well as an entirely new 39 mm size. These new versions join the (31 and 36 mm) models unveiled in 2014, creating an entire family of different sizes and attractive dial colours for a model that affords full access to the Rolex legend.
DATEJUST PEARLMASTER 39 WITH EXCEPTIONAL GEM-SETTING Rolex is introducing three exceptional new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Datejust Pearlmaster in a new 39 mm size in 18 ct yellow or white gold that masterfully combine Rolex’s watchmaking art with the captivating natural charms of gold and coloured gemstones. These exquisite jewellery watches, which incorporate the new calibre 3235, are distinguished by bezels resplendent with a colour gradient of 48 baguette-cut sapphires – blue to fuchsia pink, blue to green, or orange to yellow. Creating sets of natural gemstones and achieving a perfect colour gradient represents a considerable challenge but the result makes each one of these watches with sapphire-set bezels unique.
